St. Paul’s is currently seeking a new permanent rector. We are engaged in a prayerful, multifaceted process in order to identify what our parishioners look for in church leadership and their parish experience. We have completed a word cloud exercise (embedded both above and below) which demonstrates what the congregation values most about St. Paul’s, and filled out a congregational survey to get direct input from our parishioners regarding what they’re looking for in their home church.
We were blessed with the Rev. Sue Eaves as interim rector for the latter half of 2017 through early February, 2019. Sue worked with the congregation, staff, clergy, and the vestry-appointed Search Committee to ensure a smooth transition during this time of great change for our parish.
We were pleased to welcome on board interim rector Bill Queen in early March, 2019, as well. Bill previously served as interim rector for Christ Episcopal Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia. He recently delivered this stirring sermon on Mardi Gras Sunday, in our newly-renovated Sanctuary; you can view the whole service here, on our YouTube channel.
The vestry, as well as our search consultant, were tasked with the job of narrowing down our search committee from 29 prayerful, committed, diverse candidates to the following seven folks:
- Bruce Cruser
- Miriam Farris
- Mark Gordon
- Victoria Linney
- Steve Micas, Chair
- Stephen Peple
- Shannon Sinclair
We are grateful for this committee’s hard work and dedication during this process.
The Search Committee Prayer
Almighty God, look graciously on the people of St. Paul’s. Be with us and lead us as we seek the next rector for our church. We ask your direction and guidance for those who shall choose our new spiritual leader; that we may receive an upright and faithful pastor who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries, breaking down the walls that separate us from our neighbors, uniting us in bonds of love, and working through our struggle and confusion to seek reconciliation in Richmond and the world.
Grant us perception, faithfulness and joy, so that we may hear your voice in all our deliberations; that in our diversity we may be all of one heart & soul, united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity. Grant us also the desire and the ability to truly hear each other and those who have entrusted us with this process. Give us courage to respond and act as you lead us. Come Holy Spirit.
We pray this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
