Education for Ministry (EfM) Returning to St. Paul’s

Churchgoers today are invited to interpret the richness of the church’s faith in a complex and confusing world. A theological education supports our faith and also teaches us to express that faith in day-to-day events. Such opportunity opens the door to a world of ministry.

The Education for Ministry (EfM) program, administered by The University of the South/Sewanee, provides lay ministers with such an education. St. Paul’s will be launching an EfM group to run mid-September 2019 to early June 2020. Sign-ups will begin in June 2019.

EfM is part spiritual practice and part theological study in a small-group setting that requires weekly attendance and reading. Participation has the potential to enrich our community at St. Paul’s and also expose group members to the worldwide EfM community.

To learn more, contact Keli Shipley Cooper, Minister for Faith Formation, who will handle registration, at Stephanie Shareck Werner, who first joined St. Paul’s in 1989 and also worships in Ashland, will serve as mentor for the convening group and can be reached at or (804) 986-2953. Stephanie will be available to answer questions on Sunday, June 30.
