“My PYM Experience”: An Account of Senior Youth Weekend by St. Paul’s Teen Member, Eleanor Baird

Shrine Mont is a very special place to me — especially Shrine Mont Camps. Going into Parish Youth Ministry (PYM) weekend this fall, I didn’t quite know what to expect. I knew it would be some sort of mix between camp and the parish retreat, but I really didn’t know much beyond that.

I was in for some nice surprises!

When I arrived on Friday night, I was greeted warmly by everyone and we started off our night with a lot of enthusiasm. Over the course of the couple of days that I was there, I learned about a lot of different things and the connections they have to faith. I found the speaker who presented at the sessions interesting and incredibly entertaining to listen to. I really enjoyed that time, and it gave me room to think and reflect. The workshops we did were beneficial, as well as fun, and I learned a lot more than I thought I would. I also enjoyed singing songs, playing games, and meeting new people.

In addition to that, I was able to bond more with the other youth that came on the trip. It was so wonderful to see them enjoying Shrine Mont, as it was their first time. It was really special to be able to introduce them to this place that already meant so much to me from previous visits.

The whole PYM weekend was fantastic, and I look forward to going back in the future!
