A weekly meal ministry that has provided lunch to more than 150 guests every Thursday for over twenty-five years. To ensure we are meeting the needs of our Downtown neighbors, we update our Amazon Wish List for donation items.
The Emmaus Ministry provides a complimentary hot meal to 100-150 downtown neighbors every Thursday between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This is a ministry of hospitality, where we “seek and serve Christ” in all who walk through our doors. In addition to lunch, we offer donated items, health care screenings, social service referrals, and financial assistance. Each Thursday, we need a total of 14 volunteers for shifts of 1-2 hours, between 10 AM and 2 PM to ensure our guests receive a warm welcome. VCU’s Summer Academic Enrichment Program
VCU’s Summer Academic Enrichment Program provided a free Health Check and Foot Clinic to our Emmaus guests. Led by VCU MCV professor Dr. Michelle Whitehurst-Cook, SAEP is a six-week summer program that simulates the first year of dentistry, medicine, pharmacy, or physical therapy professional school instruction. Participants engage in academically intensive instruction and community service activities in an interprofessional framework. Thank you to Michelle and VCU SAEP interns for providing free health and healing resources for our downtown neighbors.
