Past Advent events

Blue Christmas will be held in the Chapel at 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 18.

Dealing with the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce or separation, coping with job loss, or living with cancer or other illnesses make parties and holiday happiness painful for many in our community. The Blue Christmas service offers contemplation, rest, and a time to mourn while looking forward in hope to the coming of Jesus into our world.

Wednesday, December 21, 2016: The Homeless Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. in the Memorial Garden

Advent Lessons & Carols will be at 5 p.m. in the sanctuary on Sunday, December 11.

The choirs of St. Paul’s will sing a service of Advent Lessons and Carols. The Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent was originally celebrated at King’s College, Cambridge. The order of service includes old liturgical forms that vividly express the Church’s preparation for the coming of the Lord Jesus both in the festival of Christmas and in the consummation of the ages. The service alternates lessons from the Old and the New Testaments with carols and hymns, finally climaxing in St. Matthew’s Gospel, in which the angel brings the news that Mary will bring forth a son, “and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Reception will follow.
