The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, which is made up of more than 80 million members in 44 regional and national member churches in more than 160 countries.

St. Paul’s is part of the Diocese of Virginia, one of three dioceses in Virginia. Our diocesan bishop is the Rt. Rev. Shannon Sherwood Johnston. Our bishop suffragan (a bishop elected to assist the diocesan bishop) is the Rt. Rev. Susan E. Goff. Our assistant bishop (a bishop appointed to assist the diocesan bishop) is the Rt. Rev. Edwin F. Gulick.

Basic beliefs are expressed in the Book of Common Prayer and especially in the Catechism (page 845).

This page of the Episcopal Church website provides comprehensive details of our core beliefs and doctrines.
